Background

Miss Sanjay Kumari finished her basic medical training in India. She did an (MD degree) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Institute in India, which is one of the largest tertiary referral centres for Northern India.

At this Institute, after excellent training, she became proficient in high risk obstetrics and complex gynaecology surgery. Subsequently, she relocated to the UK with her family.

She did her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the London Deanery. She worked in various London hospitals like University College London Hospital, Whittington Hospital, Royal London Hospital, Barnet Hospital and Newham University Hospital. In addition to consolidating her experience in general gynaecology, she has been awarded a certificate in colposcopy by BSCCP/RCOG and she has gained skills in advanced hysteroscopic surgery. She is currently working in Royal Free London NHS Trust, based at Barnet Hospital. As a Simulation Based Training Lead, she has successfully led this training for multidisciplinary team for many years. She is the lead for Audit in Women’s Health at Barnet, since 2011. She has been instrumental in introducing changes in the clinical practice for safe, patient centred and efficient care. She is the Lead for Colposcopy Services at Barnet site.

She is an experienced surgeon with excellent outcomes. Apart from general gynaecology, her areas of special interests are:

  • Abnormal smear management (Colposcopy)
  • Heavy Periods (Endometrial Ablation)
  • Fibroids (Hysteroscopic removal of fibroids)
  • Polycystic Ovarian syndrome(PCOS)
  • Endometriosis, pelvic pain
  • Menopause (HRT)
  • Hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery.

She has been trained in the use of hysteroscopic tissue removal system, which allows her to remove endometrial polyps in the outpatient setting without any need for hospitalisation. She regularly offers one stop management for women with abnormal bleeding at Barnet hospital.
